Imphal: Justice Siddharth Mridul was administered the oath of office as the seventh chief justice of Manipur high court by governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan’s Darbar Hall here on Friday in the presence of chief minister N Biren Singh.
Biren Singh congratulated the new chief justice and said it was a “significant moment for the judiciary in Manipur”.
On July 6, Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, led the Supreme Court Collegium in proposing Justice Mridul, the senior-most judge of Delhi high court, to be the Chief Justice of Manipur high court.
On the sidelines of the oath-taking ceremony, Biren Singh, while reacting to the report that “police personnel posted in Moreh town were not assigned appropriate orders and duties”, clarified that under the Tengnoupal district superintendent of police, almost all the police personnel have already been successfully deployed for the maintenance of law and order and they are functioning well and smoothly.
